I didn’t find any of the characters in the hub world particularly intriguing, but they serve their purpose just fine. Besides, it’s not about them — the main focus in 33 Immortals
, the “cozy management game about dying” that went on to sell millions since 2020. If you follow the studio’s history though, you’ll see it jumping between multiple genres over the years, and its latest project, 33 Immortals
It offers both light and heavy attacks, coupled with a call-back attack that pulls in all the arrows you have shot to deal a blast of damage to anyone in its path. Coupled with the weapon, players also have a handy dodge for either pin-point escapes from damage or simply kiting enemies.
, is no different – unless its 'fighting to get out of the circles of hell' theme is somehow weirdly connected to Spiritfarer
’ art style really shines: Lucifer is a big blue beast who feels ripped straight out of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
Find true strength in numbers. Optimize your skills and tactics to bolster your 33-player team, and tip the odds in your benefício through powerful cooperative moves.
enters the fight with simple but rewarding combat-favoring groups of allies, a tight gameplay loop to keep coming back, fantastically balanced maps for cooperative play, and a simple but highly readable graphics style. The game does a lot of things well, but there’s also a lot of promises being made, especially for things that should be staple for new games such as controls remapping.
Every few Torture Chambers, divine punishment strikes—fire tornados, meteors, and other deadly hazards force you to stay on the move or be wiped out. This Wrath of God intensifies until 12 chambers are cleared, triggering Holy Fire and the final sprint to the Ascension Battles.
While that isn’t a massive amount of time to pump into a roguelike, I think I managed to grasp the title’s unique gameplay loop and the direction the developers want to take it.
Dante, the keeper of Perks, provides a selection of 20 upgrades, improving everything from gold drops to attack power—each can be upgraded five times for stronger bonuses.
That also means you can join an open game at any time – there are more than enough enemies around should I just want a quick “pick-up and raid” session to earn some Shards to spend on cosmetics and Perks in The Dark Woods, your home base on this adventure. Going back to the standard 2 second dodge cooldown in later runs felt like such a downgrade, making the gameplay feel noticeably slower and less responsive compared to when I had the perk.
This multi-tiered approach to finishing your roguelike “run” is challenging, yet very fun to play with — even though I only managed to complete just three Torture Chambers before succumbing to the elements (aka ‘ripped apart by monsters’). As I would learn during repeated runs – it seems the number of completed Torture Chambers is retained should you die and reenter Inferno — the larger the group of fellow Souls I traveled with, the larger my chances of survival became – and you can imagine how much bigger those chances get with 32 other people on your side.
